PTO, FOC, LSC - What’s the difference?

Parent Teacher Organization (PTO)

The PTO is a group of parent volunteers who focus on creating a collaborative and productive relationship between the school administration, parents, and teachers in service of a quality experience for Chappell students. The PTO coordinates programs such as Grade Reps and Mutual Aid, as well as hosts events such as the Back-to-School Block Party, pre-K/kindergarten summer playdates, monthly community nights, the World Culture Fair, and Teacher Appreciation Week celebrations.

Friends of Chappell (FOC)

FOC is the fundraising group for Chappell. FOC is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is run by parent volunteers. Throughout the year, FOC raises funds through give-back events, parent socials, Move-a-Thon, and the annual Spring Fundraiser. The funds raised by these events benefit all Chappell students and staff through school assemblies, field trips, building improvements, grants for teachers, curriculum, the garden, the beehives, the chickens, and the arts. Local School Council (LSC)

Broadly, the LSC is the governing body for Chappell. The LSC is comprised of parent, community, educational, and student members who are selected through a combination of elections and appointments. The LSC is responsible for approving the school-based academic plan and the annual budget in alignment with this plan. They also select and renew contract principals and engage in his annual evaluation.
